Bob's practice centers on commercial and residential real estate transactions, zoning and land use planning, as well as real estate, land use, probate and commercial litigation. He appears before various governmental commissions and agencies and the State Courts.
The activities typically involve handling purchases, sales and financing of residential and commercial real estate, processing subdivisions and other land use applications before municipal boards and commissions, handling real estate tax appeals, commercial disputes, probate disputes as well as litigation which may stem from such matters.
Bob received a BA Degree with honors from Yale University in 1954. After service as an Army Artillery Lieutenant, he received an LLB Cum Laude from the University of Pennsylvania in 1959 (retroactively converted to a JD some years later).
Upon admission to the Connecticut Bar in 1959, Bob joined the Westport, Connecticut firm of Nevas and Nevas as an associate where he remained until 1964 when he opened his own law office in Norwalk Connecticut. In 1970, he rejoined the Nevas firm as a partner and it was renamed Nevas Nevas and Rubin. At the end of 1991, he left what was then the firm of Nevas Nevas Capasse Rubin and Sarezky, and joined Berkowitz and Balbirer P.C., also of Westport, as a member. In 1999, Berkowitz and Balbirer merged with Trager and Trager of Fairfield to form the existing firm.
He served as an instructor in Real Estate and Probate Law and Probate Administration at the Connecticut Center for Continuing Education at Fairfield University from 1975 to 1978. When he practiced in Norwalk, he held various governmental positions, including membership on the Norwalk Redevelopment Agency and the Norwalk Equal Opportunity Board. He also served as a Special Corporation Counsel and then Corporation Counsel. Bob was also a member of the Advisory Council and Community Affairs for the State of Connecticut from 1974 to 1978. He held various offices on the Westport Bar Association, becoming President for the 1983-1984 term. From 1978 through 2005 Bob was a member of the Executive Committee of the Connecticut Bar Association Planning & Zoning Section. From 1989 to 1999 he served on the Federal Grievance Committee for the US District Court of the District of Connecticut.
